Please, get a soil test (analysis) before you go spend money to add things that may not be necessary. Contact your County Agricultural Extension Cooperative. They can assist you in getting an inexpensive test done. -

I got a couple of loads of topsoil mixed with compost and tilled it into my garden area. Seems to work fine for the last 5 years. Haven't had to replace any. -

just remember, any compost, mulch or peat moss will need to break down to be useful. and can actually be a hindrance if not done correctly until it does break down.limiting tilling helps as well. http://msue.anr.msu.edu/news/build_smart_soils_using_mulch_composted_organic_matter_and_reducing_tillage
