Tall grasses: fescue, fountain grasses
Lawnmower types: St. Augustine, Kentucky bluegrass,
Fescue works well
Kentucky Bluegrass is great for shaded areas
If you are in central Florida Fescue /bluegrass will come to a sad end. St. Augustine will give you a better yard. You can also try Bermuda 'Celebration'. It is used in many athletic fields in Florida and will take do fine if it is getting 5 hours of sun a day. Another grass you might want to investigate is Jamur Zoysia which does great in central Florida and withstands a great amount of shade (4 hrs sunlight), with great foot traffic resistance. If you have any questions on those suggestions you can email me at 360sod@gmail.com. I don't sell grass in you area, so I am not out to make a sales pitch ..lol..
We bought St. Augustine and I sure would NOT recommend it. We have issues with brown spots, cinch bugs, sod web worms. It's always something and it's always expensive.
