What will grow best in my sandy "beach" bed?

I've got a white (river) sand bed across the front of my house. It's somewhat shady, and I struggle to find just the right perennials to plant that maintain that coastal vibe. (Grass and weeds grow more than fine, bye the way!) Ideas? Thank you!!!

my grandfather used to plant something he referred to as never die, it is green and a low stalk plant -

Try ornamental grasses . Tall fountain grasses grow very well in sand. It is very pretty to see the tall plumes on the top swaying in the wind. But if you want to go much lower try a cactus plant. Nothing can kill them but watch out ...they stick you! -

Ornamental grasses with different colour leaves/heads should add interest and keep that coastal feel -

Nandinas are a multicolor bush that can tolerate any condition. As they mature clumps of tiny red berries come out. They also turn red in the cold weather. You can’t go wrong!
