Mine did lovely with south-western exposure. Midday sun, they can tolerate some 'wet feet', once established, until then water every other day morning or dusk.

Once established, they can tolerate the hot West Texas sun. They might tolerate some shade. They like the sun.

I planted the lovely double lilac that my Mother gave me years ago in the middle of my lawn in full sun. It is about 20+ years old now and still a gorgeous bush. When I move, I hope to take a start with me, along with a start of the old yellow rose that came from my Great Grandmother's planting, long before I was born. (I am 74 so it goes back a long way. I love it when it blooms in the spring and is covered with those lovely yellow Roses.
