  • Pull the weeds this time and then sprinkle Preen over the ground where the weeds were. Read the directions, but Preen rocks.

When ever doing major gardening projects such as a re-designing it is best to so during early spring.Or in other words right away. Your question is on the vague side if you do not mean me saying so.I want to help you out but I am not sure if you want just the boards removed or designated for altogether another location. you want flower beds out but want the flowers in the beds saved? If your asking how to transplant your flowers now also is the time prior to bloom dig deep dig well around and be careful with the root system. Please feel free to contact me directly for further detailed step by step manner in which to do either project.

I just did a perennial bed yesterday that I have in the front of my house. It was over run with vinca and ivy.since the perennials are just starting to come up, I was able to pull all of the ivy and vinca out without hurting other plants. Do it now though, before everything else starts coming up. Hope this helps

Just finished this spring time chore. Someone had to help me this year because of age and infirmities. We used a hand rake and turned the soil over to expose the linear root system. Each time during the summer you see little dollars coming up tackle it right away. I also ended up with a bumper crop of mint and have never planted it in the ground. Same remedy. Get the linear roots not just the tops. Another one that's even more aggravating is torpedo grass. Yes, yes, yes on Preen but remember it is primarily for seeds that are blown in a sprout. Good luck.

The best way is to use a liquid weed killer. Pour a small amount into a disposable dish then use a small paint brush to carefully 'paint' the weed killer on each leaf. Then just leave it. In a week or two the dollar weed will be dead, but your other plants should be fine.

The dollar weed will be back in a jiffy if you don't do something about excess moisture.

Thanks for the info...I heard that Atrazine is best for that...but, it would take me a whole week to paint each leaf! :-) I guess that is better than trying to pull up those white roots...somehow they keep coming back after that.

@Suzy Wilks by painting the weed killer on the majority of leaves you will be able to eradicate it. :-)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but i think Atrazine is one of the weed sprays that you can use on Centipede and St Augustine grasses with no unexpected grass problems if used as directed. And don't let anyone use your lawnmower. I now have all of my neighbors' weeds cause I would let him use my mower for himself and in return he would cut my grass too. Now I have all of his weeds too. But pulling weeds in early evening is like being in a private garden with God to me. I can think and listen while pulling those weeds. The weed pulling started at my grandmothers when I was about 10 yrs old. I got quick training on what to pull by hand, and what weed required which tool to get it out. After my grandmother passed, my mom and I did the same thing at my house. My mom passed last year and I have got to get a quick handle on the weeds this year so I went to Pikes Nursery in Atlanta and got a professionally recommended weed killer for my type of grass. Good Luck
