Instead of risking using chemicals to kill the stump, drill out a hole big enough and use it as a planter.

I went to a nursery in Woburn Ma with this same issue. I had to drill holes in the stump and they gave me a compound to pour into the holes. After 3 days the stump dried out and could be broken away. then do the same process as far down onto the root as you can. It kept breaking up and after about 3 sessions it was gone. Not sure what the product was but call a nursery in your area for the product name, I am sure they can help.

Drill some holes into it and fill it will salt. It will dry out the moisture and kill the stump.

If it is at ground height, put rock salt on it and bury it in dirt. It takes about 6 months to disintegrate the stump.

i have drilled holes in stumps and drenched it in kerosene a few times then lit it and let it slow burn to the roots. There was a bit of fill needed for the hole it left, however the vegetation surrounding it was not greatly affected
