  • Sprinkle diatomaceous earth around. Or place a shallow dish with stale beer at ground level. They go in and die.

Place a ring of salt around the areas that are affected. The salt will dry out the slug as it touches the salt. The ring will prevent further slug movement. Lightly toss salt on the affected flowers - that will dry up any existing slugs on or under the flowers. When it rain or heavily water the plants - reapply, This is economical and the salt does not hinder the plants.

Spray the slugs with a mixture of water (90% and household ammonia (10%). i do a slug run every evening at dusk as they move across the grass or If you lay boards down in your beds, they will gather in that spot. You can then lift the board and spray them. The ammonia will not hurt the plants as it provides nitrogen for your plants.

I have a lot of slugs in my yard. They tend to accumulate more if you have wood chips as mulch. Switch to cedar. I save all eggshells all year in a paper bag - to be ready for planting season. Make a barrier around your gardens with broken eggshells . You have to replace when you get a big rain, but the slugs will cut themselves and die if they try to cross the rough egg shell path. The egg shells are beneficial to the soil.

Also old or cheap beer in an old tin foil pie pan. Put a 1/2 of the beer in the pan - they will fall in and drown. Change every 24-72 hours. Then dig a little hole into the soil and dump them. Start over with more beer.

You can spray them when you see them, with a mixture of plain white vinegar and table salt. This will kill the vegetation though.
