put coffee grounds down. We drink a lot of coffee. It keeps the cats from peeing next to the house.

    Hi Edita,

To start with if these are not feral cats, talk to their owners and let them know what their kitty has been doing to your garden.

If they are feral then there are a couple of things you can do to stop this behavior:

    1. You could put plastic forks tine side up so it is uncomfortable for them to walk on, but this creates a difficult situation for humans.
    2. Some people have had some success with chicken wire type mesh in between the rows or plants, it does not have to be a stiff weave. The purpose is to not allow them to dig to try to cover their droppings, they seem to need to do that.
    3. Since you probably water your garden, attach your sprayer hose to a motion sensor, when kitty comes by it gets sprayed and kitties do not like to be wet. Available at DIY stores.

I would try to stay away from the mothball as a repellent, it is a chemical which would be released in your garden. A clear danger to children thinking it is candy (although it smells bad) and you really do not want to have your plants root system take this up and go onto the vege's

Clove oil, tea tree oil, orange oil, crushed moth balls, cayenne peoper will all repel cats. Rue plants and rue oil are very effective.
