Deer will eat almost anything. Drive around your neighborhood and see which plants are surviving. Also ask your garden center for deer resistant plants. Keep in mind, that some of these deer resistant plants will be tasty if they are not mature. You may have to put a chicken wire fence around them until they are older. The hair idea is interesting.

Go to the beauty shop and get some human hair to spread around your plants and they won't bother them. I had to do this with my rose bushes that they were eating off.
