I‘d install my pressure-treated post as close to the chain link as possible. Before installing, attach a second piece of lumber directly to the wood post to fill the gap between the steel post and wood fence.
I’d use plumbers metal strap (1” wide with holes), and screw one end into the spacer, wrap around chain post, and screw into back of the spacer to further secure.
