Can cool seal roof coating be put on asphalt shingle roof
Live in Florida with black shingles on roof. Makes for very high electric bill
It is possible to paint asphalt shingles, but many professionals recommend against it. ... Behr Roof Paint is intended to brighten roofs and reflect heat, however the EHT staff has no first-hand experience with the product. Before painting, replace any brittle or cracked shingles and clean the roof surface.
You’ll have to use masonry:concrete dye/stain, as paint will flake off.
After washing the roof off with a hose & a long handled deck scrub brush, spray a mild dish soap mixture on the dirty spots & scrub again. Power rinse it & make sure all the dirt is gone from the crevices.
When dry, use a long handled roller & tray, and roll on the dye/stain.
It will dye the gutters, and flashing, so if you don’t cut-in those areas first, then I’d masking tape them.
I would probably dilute it by 15-20% and do two full coats.
I would advise against it. As shingles age, they start to break down. Then they peel.
Yes but if you choose to paint your roof, contact the shingle manufacturer first to see how doing so could affect your roof and warranty. Choose a product designed for asphalt roofs, and follow all applications instructions carefully. Apply these products with a roller or sprayer only to clean, dry roofs after removing mold, mildew and other contaminants. Keep in mind that these products are typically not designed to extend the life of your roof or repairs leaks or damage.
