Is it necessary to paint sunlight exposed PVC pipe?

by Bob
In many parts of the country, PVC is used for running/extending water lines for lawn watering, exterior showers and shrub sprinkler systems. I have heard sunlight UV 'weakens' standard white PVC and that it is recommended if exposed to sunlight, painting the exposed PVC will extend life and reduce weakening or pipe becoming brittle. (Note: gray plastic electrical conduit has a sunlight resistant marking on it).
