I used exterior paint to cover my pvc pipes. It lasted four years that I know of---I moved after that so it may last longer. I did it to hide them but they lasted longer too.
I live in Raytown, MO and have had PVC water pipes exposed to the elements for YEARS and other than draining them in the winter, I've never had an issue with them.
basically there is four types of pvc...white for cold water lines indoors....yellow/beige for hot water lines....grey for electrical and outdoor use (with out need for paint) and black for sewer....use the right pvc for the job and you will never have a problem
