Paint peeling is not the fault of the paint. It is either from moisture in the wood that was sealed in by the paint or from dust that was not cleaned from the wood before it was painted.

Thanks. I thoroughly cleaned it and I let it dry thoroughly. Based on all that I have read, paint often peels on wood decks after a short time despite manufacturer's recommendations. I was hoping for a longer lasting product but guess I'll just have to live with doing touchups until I have to paint it again.

Prep is the key for the paint to last longer. Cleaning the deck with bleach/water solution is recommended before painting it.

How long since the wood you painted had been installed?

Call the manufacturer, Behr has been excellent with our troubles, offering suggestions and replacement product and cleaner. Give them a chance to remedy the situation. In hindsight -We have found the thinner deck sealers ( semi transparent and solid stain) to last the longest, despite— what their longer lasting “deck overs” promote.

We have had to patch paint with a soild sealer -a huge new deck installed in 2015 nearly every year. This year I hope we have reapplied the sealer after cleaning with optimal instructions and technical advice hoping for the promoted longer lasting finish. Its no fun to look forward to a failing finish or reapplication more than the manufacturer cans suggests! I hope you can resolve your situation to your satisfaction! Best wishes!

well if it was pressure treated lumbar it should certainly have been dried in that time. Is the deck open to all kinds of weather? I ask this because we have a roofed in and screened porch that in 40 + years I can only remember painting once. I meant . . . had. . . the whole thing was replaced last summer

Best of luck. You are correct that paint on decks has mixed results. I don't currently own a wooden deck, but when I have I only used stain and sealers, never paint.
