Yes you can. Give a light sand to provide a key for the paint. Then paint an undercoat/primer coat that is preferably oil based paint with shellac in it. This will give good coverage and prevent any bleed through into the top coat as well. Then paint with your top coat. Could be best to use a roller rather than a paintbrush to get a smoother finish. I would remove all the cabinet doors and lay them on newspaper and use a roller rather than a brush.

Yes I have painted laminate several times, 1 thing thay may help you out is Instead of sanding I use Liquid sander deglosser from Lowe's. It is very inexpensive and works so fast and easy. I have then used Latex paint or chalk paint on my projects and I have not found much difference with the look or durability they both held up great. Depending on the item and how much wear it gets you can leave it as is, or seal it with your choice of sealer or wax. =)

I painted my ugly fake wood laminate cabinets and am very happy. Have changed the color 3 times over the years. Just lightly sand to give it "tooth" I prefer kilz primer (even if paint has a primer in it) You want to give it a white base for a "true" color. i.e. if they are brown and you paint it white you will not get a "true" white without a white primer to start with. Some people prefer to remove the doors and hardware, just make sure you have room to put all the cabinet doors while painting them. Good luck.

Use ESP( Easy Surface Preparation )on them first. then use a Satin or Eggshell Paint.
