I have never done this however there is a whole process from removing dirt grease etc. prior to painting. Check the dyi websites for further details.
    • @Janet Pizaro ...I have not used Chalk Paint on paneling, however, I use it A LOT , as a base coat for wood that I dont necessarily want to sand and prime. It gives great results, as long as you do two thinner coats, not one thick one, since thinner coats always give a better finish ( as is with most paints.). I have seen Chalk Paint used on walls, etc, but I am not sure I personally would use it for that, its quite labor intensive to use for that sort of application. I hope this helps you.

@Janet, this is a DIY site, which is why @Vicki, came here for help. Vicki, I first need to know whether or not your paneling is knotty pine. Knotty pine is a whole other ballgame when it comes to painting.

@Janet Pizaro since you didn't give her a link to a site that could help her I thought I could help you understand what Hometalk is about. There are many questions I don't answer unless I have had the experience or can link the poster to where they can find the answer. I didn't mean anything but to be helpful to you. I know you are trying to help, just giving you a tip.

I haven't used it on paneling but on wood furniture .. it worked well. Paneling would be labor intensive, I'm imagining a room of paneling.

I work for Lowes and have had a customer do this. Make sure you use a fine grit sand paper to give it an extra smooth surface. Paneling is porous and stained so you need to use an oil base primer before you paint. After that is smooth sailing.
