I think it's wise to always roll on a coat of primer so that the paint has something to adhere to. Chalk paint is a different product.
When it comes to metallics I personally prefer Rustoleum and Krylon brand spray paints but any acrylic paint will do. If you opt for painted on paint instead of spray, it's best to use a small paint roller to avoid brush strokes. And be sure to apply a coat of clear sealant to protect your paint job :) Be sure to allow each coat of whatever you're using to dry completely! before adding the next.
Faux tin is available at Home Depot, Lowes, & many sites online. It is easy to work with as you only need to cut it w/scissors and glue it to the area/s of your choosing. Maybe just embellish specific areas of your piece with it?

Mettalic -Yes! I did a remarkable -outdoor -patio mesh furniture refurb with oil rubbed bronze metallic. It made the furniture better than new. Its a beautiful paint color with depth of color and subtle metallic sheen. I have also used the Universal satin nickel for other projects.
Universal line has a wonderful applicator spray tip - that can offer effortless and professional results.

Here's a night stand I did 2 years ago. I bought a set for $18 total. I also used the RustOleum Hammered spray paint on the batwing drawer pulls.
I haven't used Rust-0-Leum on furniture, But have over 60 years experience using paints of all sorts. I Swear by the metallic. About 12 years ago I used the gold Rust-O-Leum paint on a 6 foot piece of rebar to use as a towelrack in bathroom. And covered switch plate with it. Never needed to touch it up, still ln use. Just keep reciepts in case you get a defective product.
