Hi Pamela. I'm Cindy. You will have to sand your cabinets in order to remove the current stain. After sanding, be sure to clean them very well. Then you can stain them the color of your choice. I recommend that you take the doors and drawers down before sanding. Label them on the top edge so that you can replace them to where you got them from. Remove the hardware too. If your hardware needs cleaning, put them in a crock pot overnight on low. Next day remove them from the crock pot and clean them with an old toothbrush. They will come out just like new. Best of luck to you.
Cindy's answer is exactly what you should do, Pamela...very good advice!
400 grit sandpaper.
Take one of the cabinet doors to the paint department of the home improvement store and ask them to select paint/stains and other finishes and application tools that will work for your kitchen. They have the best selection, the most up-to-date materials and most important, the most informative sales staff to get you what you need for a professional job.
