Strip (sand) down the top, unicorn spit stain (I would do black) and seal. Chalk paint the apron and legs light grey, old white or French linen. wax one coat clear, then black wax ensuring that any crevices or detailing are highlighted with the black.
Chalk paint and wax covers everything and you do not have to strip or sand the table. If you like unicorn spit, that could be an answer, it is just not to my liking. I have used chalk paint for a table and kitchen cabinets and was amazed at the coverage. The wax gives it a depth that is really nice.
I thought this was cool....http://www.thewhimsicalwife.com/2012/05/queen-anne-side-table-makeover-winner.html
I would sand it down so the blobs of paint don't show through and then finish it with a sealer of your choice. I like Watco Danish oil.
Chalk paint and wax!
