There is a painting kit designed for painting laminate countertops. That should work.
A high traffic counter like that is probably not a great idea to paint, but if you really want to try, a glossy melamine paint is your best bet. Give it several costs with lots of time to cure between each. I have done a small counter with it in our house and left it to come for several days before finally installing, but it has held up okay. If the sink is made part of countertop, it does not work on sinks . There are kits for that sold at Home Depot. Step by step instructions are in the kit.
You could also remove old countertop and replace the top with a new laminate top.
