How to paint laminate bathroom vanity

I just bought a home with a 1980s sink vanity. The countertop is a blue/grey laminate which is tacky! The bottom part is oak and I plan to either paint or stain it. It is also in good condition. The sink also is in good shape. I am painting the walls a cool melon/peach color. I am also redoing the floor with wood tiles. Can you spray paint/paint, whatever to get rid of the icky color? Thanks.
