How would I refinish a waterfall bedroom set?

The finish is all flaking off my mothers waterfall bedroom set. Should I paint or refinish with varnish etc?

I just finished mine by painting the outside with charcoal color chalkpaint then finishing wax.I refinished the drawers to keep some wood. Looks amazing.

The drawers are usually beautiful on these peices s I stripped them and put a clear coat of varnish.

Would paint it with chalk paint or spray paint and spray primer if it is going to be a light color

I have an old waterfall dresser that has some damage to the veneer, but, until I'm sure I can preserve the beauty of the details, I'm not refinishing it. Where the veneer is coming off, you could use embossing powder , sand, paint.

Re-stick the veneer, or if missing use a filler if you can't get a cabinet maker to repair it for you.
