perhaps a quarter round molding? just guessing as I don't know what it looks like but the quarter round placed on the top edges would act like "sidewalls" for your pennies or pebbles.
Depends on the shape of the table. but I would go to the mill work section of lowes and pick up some molding that you like and fits the style of the table.
If you are use pennies, why not use copper on the edge like there: https://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=AwrSbgoY44xaajEAChBXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEycmdndjh1BGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDQjQ1MTdfMQRzZWMDc2M-?p=copper+edging+for+furniture&fr=yset_chr_syc_hp
You can install and stain some plywood to make an edging
Thanks !
The table is round
