Good luck.
use startch and put some pretty fabric on it .Change it when ever.
You can paint the top or the bottom of the table. I suggest the top as the colors for painting the bottom are not as varied. Make SURE you thoroughly clean the glass surface with either alcohol or white vinegar. The paint will cover any scratches or abrasions and be fairly easy to do. I think it's beautiful to get colorful tiles (Caribbean flavor) to put around the perimeter of the table. It's just according to how DIY savvy you are. Your choices are almost limitless. Research the web. Vast amounts of information.
Buy table cloths...some are really cheap.
Or make your own easily by cutting the 4 sides of fabric nice & straight, then fringing by pulling threads maybe about 1/4 to1/2 inches. A good idea is to sew a straight line or 2 to stop fraying more.
If you think you'll need a base under the tablecloth, use an old blanket.
All of the ideas above are good. In addition to those, replace the glass with a wood panel and paint or stain to coordinate with the base.
Or you can paint the underside of the glass to a color you like and it will still be easy to clean.
