New felt for a poker table

I have a poker table with a felt (fuzzy cloth now) top that doesn't seem to be removable to replace the cloth. I'm pretty handy but this one has me stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Maybe a sweater shaver to remove the felt balls?

I believe they sell them in bed bath & beyond. And you can buy them throw some home decorating catalogs.

We tried the shaver but it was only a very temp fix. And was not very satisfactory. Going to try replacing the felt with a padded material so that the table will feel like a Vegas Blackjack table.

I'd remove the felt altogether and replace with a new piece. If you can't take the table apart, scrape the felt off, and lay the new piece on top. Use Elmer's glue to add new piece. Start gluing from the middle, then work your way to the edges. If you can't staple the new felt on the back, then take an Xacto knife and cut the edges. Then, glue edges last.

If you are looking for Las Vegas quality, I strongly recommend having the refelting done professionally. It sounds like your table was covered in cheap craft felt, hence the pilling. True billiard table felt is made of wool and is very expensive. Last time I checked (a decade or two ago) it was $35 a yard. I don't think you'll be happy with a DIY job. Get a pro!
