Suggestions for paint color of railings and stairs?

by Keb29110243
We are a large active family (7)with two dogs. Recently put down laminate flooring and painted walls, but not sure about stairs and rails.
Taken from kitchen entry
This is what we see when we open our front door
Photo not true to color, although shade or tone is correct-it is a light grey(no beige undertone). Dolphin fin by Behr
The walls are a light gray, with white trim. Those colors are also in the kitchen, which is where i Took the picture from.
The grey color on top floor wall is actually the same along the stair wall. The stair trim is dark grey.
Front door is a darker, contrasting gray

    Black and white. Posts-white, hand rail-black, steps-black

Your right white hand rails will get dirty. That is what I have now. Hate it. Everything white. Steps, rails and post. And a red runner on the stairs. I am going to remove the paint off the hand rail and leave it natural or paint it black.

Defends on the wall color, we have to base it there, because by just painting it whatever color you want, might not look good, it should be at least closer or shall I say will not look awkward from the wall paint. From what I saw on your picture (not sure), it’s completely different when you see the actual color than by just basing it on the picture, I suggest, light brown or a shade of cream/beige color. If you decide to paint it dark color, dirty or dust is noticeable right away.

Thanks for your help. I agree to stick to a color that “goes” with the walls(which look tan in some photos but are actually GREY!) I’ll probably try deeper grey (than walls)for the rails. Still not sure about stairs

I think your rails and baseboards etc would look lovely a deeper gray than the walls in the living room. Risers and spindles white.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I believe that’s what I may do. I am worried about white spindles coz boys/men seem to think they are handrails! Probably get too dirty too quickly for me..may try and see what happens. I could be surprised though . Thanks

Yes your walls looked like cream/beige color, for me, just a suggestion, I will paint the rails a little darker than your walls and the stairs, the deeper grey color, at least it will all look like one tone (shade-grey). Pls let me know if you agree on my suggestion.

Hi. I am going with the darker color like you mentioned. Thanks! I’ll post a photo later

Dark gray for stairs and railings... IMO I don't think you have the type of railing that would look right 2 toned. I think dark gray would look modern like your style of railing.

I had natural wood like you and painted it white as per a designer's recommendation...big mistake! It always looked dirty or worn, despite trying different paints, and cleaning it all the time.
