I have beautiful light switch and electrical outlet covers but the color of the outlets and switches stand out like a sore thumb. What is the best paint to use to help blend them into the covers?

I don't think that you can paint the actual switches and outlets. I do not think that the paint would stick on for long for one thing and you would have to remove them to paint them--and not get any paint on any of the wiring. You can replace them with other colors. I went from a bone color to white for my outlets and switches with new white covers. The selection of actual switches and outlets are usually white or cream--occasionally you might find brown. Luckily there's an electrician in the family!

First! Shut down electric source to these!! I've painted both and sealed with midge podge. Tape up surrounding area of exposed outlet. Use toothpicks to clean "oops", allow to dry, cure. It's those little things that put a room together!

I had beige outlets and wanted white ones so I took the outlet covers off and spray paint them white. I took a sheet of cardboard and made a stencil the shape of the switch and one the shape of the plug. I then held it over the outlets and lightly spray painted white. The sheet of cardboard will protect the wall around the area. A can of spray paint was a lot less than 30 outlet boxes and covers.

  • I agree. I wouldn't paint them. Switch them out for a color that matches a little better.

    Rustoleum spray is great.
