Clean both the tiles and grout extremely well. Chose a urethane-based floor paint in the color of your choice. Then seal with a clear urethane based sealer. Done!
You can paint ceramic tile and there are lots of sites giving advice on painting tiles in bathrooms. Your application should be less demanding, so go for it. We built a hearth pad over ours! We used a pice if cement board from Lowe’s and a piece of plywood over that and picked out a nice tile and grout. You may have to blow up the picture a bit to see it
You can use a bonding primer, then paint using a foam roller
OK, so the wood burning stove sits on the tiles? Anything you do will have to be heat resistant, right? Painting the tiles is not an option, unless you use a heat resistant paint. They make that, in a spray, but as far as I know color is limited to flat black . Personally, I would leave it alone, and use that color as an accent in the room. Think throw pillows, lamps, area rug. Blue-gray may brighten up an earth tone room.
Blue and brown go together, I would leave it as it is. You can have some blue accents and maybe some blue in pictures you hang.
Hi Carole bluish grey matches earth tones, but you could pain the tile with heat tolerant paint, (your colors are a little limited) or you could clean the existing tiles up and tile over them with a color you prefer. I attached some pics of earth tones with blue and grey for you to check out as well
Hi Carole,
Did you find a solution? We've also got some beautiful blue tile around our wood stove that I'd like to paint. Just laid down the new flooring, walls will be white and I grabbed a can of Rustoleum high heat paint in flat black for the actual stove. I'm so lost as to what colour I'd even do the tile but surely anything would be better than the blue!
