Can I paint my gold tone shower door metal?
Hi Mary Ann, Yes, I think you can change the color. I know that Rustoleum makes different finishes such as, brushed, hammered, etc. in a wide variety of colors. Be sure to get the product made especially for bathrooms. I'm assuming there will be a lot of steam involved. Also, you might want to go lightly over the brass with sandpaper to give the new paint a surface to stick to. Then tape it off. And paint away. Best wishes.
I stripped off the gold with Easy Off Oven Cleaner. It took a while but it worked.
Use a good degreaser on the shower doors. Very lightly sand the brass. Then tape everything off, and cover the glass to prevent overspray. Use the Rustoleum spray paint not the roll on, in a well ventilated area. OPEN THE WINDOWS. They make a brushed nickel, so does Krylon but I would stick with the Rustoleum. Spray light coats to avoid drips. It will probably take 4 coats. Follow the directions for length of dry time. If you do not the paint will sag.
