How do I paint a pre-finished laminate door?

My front door has been peeling and flaking for the past several years. How do I prepare it for paint and what type of paint do I use. We live in NJ not too far from the ocean and this door gets morning to early afternoon sun. Thanks

Sue...Sand and prime afterwards or purchase paint with primer in it.
Hi Sue, this should help

Sue, all paint has an LRV - a Light Reflective Value. That is how much light the paint reflects. Obviously, black has a low LRV, and bright white would have a high LRV, etc. Your door gets intense heat from the sun which causes this peeling, so if you could change the color to something that has a higher LRV, that would help...AFTER you sand and prime as Tinyshoes suggested above. Your local paint store (I prefer Sherwin Williams, myself
) can help you with your selection.
Hello, Sand and repaint. Its a common problem with weather exposure that doors often needing repainting every 3 years. Saw this video recently on TOH.
I hope this helps!

Sand or brush off loose paint then"Before recoating, the author washes all trim with a combination of trisodium phosphate (TSP) and bleach to remove any salt film. This also removes surface mildew that may have collected on homes that are a few years old. Once again sand it down, use oil based primer then acrylic top coat. https://www.jlconline.com/how-to/exteriors/painting-the-coastal-home_o
