You can use a privacy film that comes in a variety of patterns on rolls to cut the size you need. Available at Home Depot.

That's what I was going to recommend, too. I did that on my storm door and it works like a champ.

  • there is a frosted glass contact paper that might be able to help you.

well, paint will block light, but you may be sorry for that decision. try other solutions like a drop down "awning" that drops straight down from the evae. its easy to install and rolls up or down as the need arises. I bought one for my south facing back door to keep the heat out and it was about $16. It covers the doorway so that the dog [when we pet sit for the grands] can get in and out under it and keeps the house cooler, even when the door is shut. I hung one over the patio entrance and the effect was the same, allowing us to repel heat, get in and out, open and release the cat at will, and pull the shade up when the weather was good and we didn't mind looking at or being looked at by the neighbors.

I would try putting glass film on the doors. They have ones that are the size of sliding doors at the home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowes and you can order them on-line. They have "frosted glass" and patterns that should be perfect.
