What waterproof paint can I use for my basement floor?

My basement has flooded 10 times in 13 years. So would it be more durable to use a garage floor paint in the basement on a concrete floor? As opposed to a basement concrete paint? It is already been stripped and cleaned.

Do I need to add sand to the paint so it wouldn't be slippery? I've seen some Epoxy paint but I don't like that look. I'm not sure where I can get a good paint that would work for my project. Because I haven't been shopping for it yet.

  • Oh my goodness! That's dreadful! Can you regrade the yard or add French drains so that this does not happen in the future?

    • City has nothing to do with it. You should regrade your property to slope away from any structure. Install French drains to divert the water so they can empty out into the street and go in the storm drains and not in your basement. I would seriously consider a consult with a structural engineer and soils expert.

For instance, I live in the land of no rain, earthquakes and constant fire danger. BUT every blue moon we will get a downpour which has the potential to flood my back yard and north side of the property. I regraded the back yard and installed French drains so that when it does rain, that my house doesn't become flooded. THAT has nothing to do with the City or County, and is homeowner maintenance.

Hi. Concrete stain would be better for you. Good luck.

What a horrible situation. I think you have a good idea, just be careful because most people complain that once they paint the garage the floor becomes super slippery. I agree with Naomie in that you should look into a french drain or something to prevent or lessen the issue.
