Security door rust

We have a security door that keeps rusting . We have painted it with enamel paint but it still rusts. Would marine paint (boat) work? Suggestions please.

Are you cleang off rust before painting? Then use a base coat and then a good Marine paint would certainly help !

if you can paint it black. there is a spray product that turns rust into metal and keeps it from rusting more. its black. i dont know if you can paint over it.

Any big box home improvement store will have what Kathy is talking about. We'very used it before with great results (think it's called "Extend" (exterior spiral staircase, etc.). It kills the rust without sanding and puts protective coating on it in preparation for final treatment. I would still use primer (exterior) and exterior spray paint for long term solution.

My husband always put Linseed oil right into the paint, he painted my mothers outside cellar door it never rusted after that.

Go to Jansens Ornamental Iron and look for their spray paint for ornamental iron. It works great, and dries with almost a vinyl feel to it. They also have a primer that you can use before spraying with their paint.
