How do I use lace and putty or something similar to create a pattern?

I can't find the project, but I know what you mean. You tape down the lace and then take spackle and spread it over the lace with a putty knife. Lift off the lace and the pattern is there.

The filler stuff was the stuff you use to fill holes in plaster. Look project up at top of homepage under Projects.
