We pack all our Christmas stuff (that will fit) in the clear sided plastic crates. Just loosely roll up the garland and put in the crate. Ours have a "clam shell" top so I have pieces of old sheets that go on top of the stuff in the crate to keep the dust off.

I use a card board gift box. Flatten it out like before it has been used then just wind the garland around the box. It doesn't tangle and comes undone easy when you need to use it again.

Use an empty Quaker oat can. Cut a slit in the lid and put one ene of the garland in the slit And the lid onto the too of the can. Wrap the garland around the can working your way to the bottom and tuck that end into a slit on the bottom. Put whole thing in bag to store.

I have a couple of the old fashioned gift boxes that are still real sturdy from the old days. I do loose loops inside the box and they stay fluffy for years that way. Any other way that I have tried they end up flattened out and not so good looking. I do the same with my glass bead garland without any breakage. I have used them for about ten years and my mom used them for probably fifteen or twenty years before I did.
