We are remodeling a 1945 yr old house...no closets....we closed in the back porch, framed in, finished outside and inside....good idea...but where the dryer is located in the kitchen the vent goes off the dryer is putting moisture into the closest and even making the storm door and inside door wet.....what can we do to reroute the vent from the closet. Help

  • Oh my goodness! First, this is a safety issue. The vent must lead to somewhere outside the house. Is your home on a foundation? If so, you can possibly vent through the floor, but would not recommend it. How close is the dryer to an outside wall?

If it was a gas dryer it would be a safety issue and have to be vented outside. An electric dryer is ok to be vented inside. I have an electric dryer and it is vented to a water filled plastic container made for dryers. The lint is minimized because of the water and it provides great extra heat and humidity in the winter. In the summer I just add more flexible tubing and run it over to the window. This sends the heat and humidity out the window and doesn't mess with my air conditioning.

You will need to find a spot where you can vent the dryer to the outside. All that moisture can cause a mold problem.

Like William said - cut a hole in another outside wall to reroute it.

You can have a straight run of 10'. Use straight pipe from Home Depot, Lowes, or Menards in the heating department. The corrugated pipe is too flexible and tends to trap lint.

We have figured it out. We are going to reconstruct the vent with extended piping to go thru an outside wall....Problem solved...thank you for your input.

Thanks. we have decided to use metal piping and run thru a wall to the outside.
