I'd call a plumber. Could be heating element, thermostat... hopefully still under warrenty.

  • Look for the gauge, they may have turned it down for some reason. Turn the temperature up a bit. If that doesnt work, let me know and tell me what brand you have and we can troubleshoot further.

    • You are so welcome Karen! Since this is a new to you house, did they include a one year home warranty? Where I live it is standard operating procedure to include on a resale home. Costs the sellers a couple hundred dollars or so depending on the size of home. If anything goes amiss, it is somewhere around $35 to $50 for the service call and the rest is free. Where I live, you can't get any service tech out even for an estimate for less than $100, many times much more. When purchased my current home 19+ years ago, I used it when the thermostat went out and they replaced it with a super duper decent quality programmable model that was better than what was originally in place. Then the dishwasher went out, paid my $35 and was provided a brand new mid range model that lasted a respectable amount of time.

The previous owners may have had the temperature lowered. If it is brand new there should be a warranty with this. or call the name on the heater and see if they can help? I am not aware of electric water heaters but on my gas heater it is easy to control the temperature knob. Just one thing I do is that the drain spigot on the bottom of tank I put a bucket underneath and turn it on if it is brown looking and let it run till there is clean water coming out then shut if off this keeps the sediments from setting on the bottom and it will rot the bottom of tank. I do this least twice a year.
