Moisture barrier installation

the ceiling has insulation but not covered. Some of the insulation is hanging out but probably just needs a little tucking.

the crawl space is dry and ventilated according to the inspector but recommended installing vapor retarder and replace or repair fiberglass batts. sorry if I wasn't clear on my question. I do appreciate your response.

i have no clue as to the cost for a professional in your area. As far as your ceiling, tucking and the which ever (drywall, planks, wood, etc.,) you choose to put up is sufficient. Your actual roof is your moisture barrier. I hope that makes sense.

Now for the under the house issue; all a vapor barrier consists of is a heavy, usually 20mil or greater, vesquiene is rolled out and taped around all supports and all seams. (Where vesquiene is over Vesquiene.) it’s just a heavy duty roll of plastic sheeting is all. It’s a little time consuming but not difficult at all. Two people and it could be done in one day.

Now for the “fiberglass batts”. All this consists of is your insulation under your house. It is probably old and could use being an R30 for cold climates.

Im guessing this is an older home and needs updating.

I would venture to give you an estimate of approximately 6 to 9 grand to have all this done. I’m just guessing here from my state and costs of items needed here for a single level 2000 sq ft house. Labor is the biggest expense here.

You have excellent suggestions here! The only way to get a proper cost estimate is to get bids from at least 3 licensed professionals. Costs vary greatly all across the country. Check their qualifications on your state Contractors License Board.

In addition to my comment above about not worrying about radon here, one other thing to be sure of is that you have the right number of downspouts for the size of your roof, and that they extend far away from your foundation. You can buy inexpensive Flex-A-Spout downspout extenders at Home Depot for $8.87 right now, in choice of four colors. They can be coiled or stretched to take the water where you need it to go. The ones I have have lasted for years.

As to tucking in the insulation batts, they can be stapled where they are loose, or you can get these little straps called insulation supports to hold the batts in place.

And definitely check with the Nassau County Consumer Affairs office to see if the contractor is licensed and if there have been complaints against him.
