It's definitely a bit of a project. But possible. This article has a great set of tips-https://www.familyhandyman.com/smart-homeowner/how-to-install-a-vapor-barrier-in-the-crawlspace/view-all/

i can add just a bit here. as far as your crawl space, what you need is to make sure that no water is draining off your property by way of your crawl space. That is an area that is supposed to remain dry at all times! If yours is getting wet, that’s a grading issue on the perimeter of your home. Next, what you need legally, under your home is a vapor barrier. The main one being is the gas called radon. Radon is a naturally occurring gas that comes from the natural decay and breakdown of uranium.

As far as the ceiling, I’m not quite clear on what your asking. A ceiling should not need a moisture barrier. A bit more info would help me out.

P.S. vapor barrier is 100% a novice diy’er can do! I can walk you through it if need be.

One thing you do not have to worry about in Franklin Square is radon. In Georgia, and nearby in NJ and Pennsylvania, it's a problem. But, to quote the NY Times, June 8, 1996, "radon is formed by the radioactive decay of uranium in rock and soil. Long island's geological substructure lacks the uranium ore necessary to produce radon." In fact, Nassau County has the lowest readings in New York State. Radon detection/abatement is totally unnecessary here on the Island.

Don't spend any money on radon detection. Don't let a contractor try to convince you we have it on Long Island. What Long Island does have is plenty of moisture in the ground, above the ground...so put the vapor barrier in to keep the moisture out of your crawl space.

I agree with Hope. Check the grade around your house and your gutters and downspouts. These are the two main problem causes with water in basements and crawl spaces. Also beware of sandwiching your floor and joists between two moisture barriers, That is setting the stage for major headaches later.

thank you so much Dot I will certainly keep that in mind.

I would still like the approximate cost of having the work done professionally if possible
