Vent or transom

I turned the wasted space at the end of my hallway into another walk-in closet. I am wondering if I should put in a transom above the door or use a vent for circulation into the closet.

Consider putting a vent in the closet door. Available at big box hardware stores. I put one into the closet previous home owner had built around the furnace as the other half of the rm./closet is storage. Works very well.

Put in a vent - available at big box hardware stores. I put one in my furnace rm. which is also half storage, and it works great.

Are you asking if you need to vent it, or which one should you put?

If it's a walk-in, I would put a transom, because it looks nicer.

I don't have a problem with my unvented closet.

I don't why you would NEED to vent it. But I agree with B the transom would look cooler if you decide to.

If you don't have transoms over other doors it would look out of place. Put vents in the door. One outside and one inside. Easier and cheaper to cut a hole in the door and screw in vents. Consider you would be dealing with the header over the door and having to frame out for the transom.

Thank you all for the replies. I put in a transom. I don't have a furnace or hot water heater in the space and since it is accessible from hall and master, I didn't think it needed a vent as some of you said😊

Thank you William. I opted to put in the transom.
