How can I protect vinly siding from barbecue?

I have a home with vinyl siding. Right now I have to move my barbecue out far away from the house to use it. I understand that regardless of siding you should use your barbecue when it is away from the house. With the vinyl siding I have to move twice as far and barbecuing becomes more of a project. I would like to make an attractive "firewall" over the vinyl that will allow less movement for the barbecue. And ideas?

The excessive heat from the BBQ will melt the siding so you need to have it a fair distance from the siding no matter what you use.
Find a good permanent location for the grill away from the house. The heat will affect anything the house is made of. Even brick, block, stone can be damaged from the heat.

We melted our siding at a rental- yikes! Lesson learned never ever grill next to the house.
