Hi Joe, depending how big your gap is, you should use caulking made for kitchens & baths.

Depends on how large of a gap, if more a crack than a gap, use tub caulking. You could also use the expanding foam caulking that is trimable (looks like foam when dispensed)
can you draw a bead of clear silicone calking along the back? This would really only work if the gap is fairly small...1/4" or so
Yes, clear silicone, or depending on what you like, a cool backsplash or large mirror...it can look really good done correctly...
Did you install a backsplash? Then caulk.
