if its a not so big hole - would you believe the worlds largest on line retailer sells hole patching kits? i'm hoping it shows up soon. I've patched holes before, but its been about 3 years back...a friend moved to a fixer upper. my holes had been taken care of, but the patch compound doesn't stay good forever...so it went to him. -

if it's as big as a door knob, you're supposed to put a patch behind the opening - then cover with compound. For me it's a tricky repair and in my case the must do was buy a new doorstop. -
