Vinegar and water solution or TSP. Get help, it's a big job. I use an industrial sized swiffer type pad to wash walls. Purchased at a janitorial supply house.

I'm Linda and I agree with Naomie. Vinegar & water will clean so much in your home that you'd be amazed. I would mix in a few drops of Dawn though because it helps remove any greasy residue that might also be on the wall. Good luck with your project. I wish you success!
