  • If this is a cabinet with water damage, first you need to address the water intrusion issue before fixing anything else. Without a photo it is rather hard to diagnose, the cabinet may be beyond repair and need replacing. Is there any way to post a photo?

Hi Nurseone, It sounds like your cabinet may be particle board. If this is the case, you may need to replace it. Once the water gets into that sort of wood, it expands and starts to peel and crumble. However, if you think it's not to far gone, here's a video to show you how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHhZ2HPEwzM

    Good luck!

If it is still peeling, I think there is trapped moisture. Circulating the air and getting it completely dry will make the surfaces workable. If someone came in to make repairs,, it might be worthwhile to contact them on the off chance the problem hasn't been resolved.

We had a slow drip under our vanity and it affected the lower portion of it where a little water soaked into the side and totally screwed up one corner on the bottom. We replaced it and let it dry and we are going to top it with painted plywood (it is black) and use it for storage in the basement, garage or one of the sheds.
