How to fix a flourescent light fixture with a broken plastic insert?

I have a wood channel fluorescent light fixture in my kitchen. I went to change the lights and dropped the plastic insert. I have all the pieces, but it's going to look awful if I piece it back together. I'm looking for inexpensive solutions to replacing the insert and diffuse the light. Something a little more contemporary would be nice. The insert is 16" by 98".

Nancy, you can simply buy a new insert. They aren't expensive
They sell replacements at lowes and Home Depot
They sell 48" diffusers. You would need two and trim to fit.

I have one like that. It had been replaced before I bought the home. It has a flat sheet that diffuses light, cut to fit on the lip.
That is a standard floressent fixture. Go to an electrical supply company that contractors buy from. That type of cover is very brittle and cannot be trimmed to fit. Take your pic along with the frame with and they can set you up.
