How can I repair a damaged formica countertop?

I have a damaged area on my formica eating bar. I had a burned spot and tried to cut it out and patch it, but that was a mistake. Short of replacing my entire kitchen countertop, what can I do? The countertops are edged with stained wood, and the backsplash is wood trim. Thank you.
Hi. You actually did a really good patch job. You can have that one section replaced without ripping out the entire kitchen. If someone tells you it can't be done, just call the next installer. The laminate is sectioned at the wall and can be re-pieced together. I ordered my own laminate countertops and put them in myself, but the cabinets were new and I didn't have to try and remove an old countertop. I would have had a pro remove the tops if there had been existing countertops so as not to damage the cabinets. Good luck!
You can try a variation of this repair. You’ll have to level it a bit with meticiculous sanding. I’d probably try one of those emery sticks (think manicure department ) that are a handle with a pink gritty end for precise aim.

I have used Kilz to patch a burned spot in retro 1950's laminate. It was successful and durable. Apply Kilz with an artists brush and if necessary faux paint area to match.
