The cabinets are in good condition other than the peeling coating.

This video shows how to repair busted split or broken MDF they keep calling it particle board it’s not it’s medium density fiberboard. Which is MDF and its what cabinets are made of today.

But the video doesn’t show the resolution to the issue posted here. The “veneer” melamine coating is peeling off of the MDF and just needs to repair that like said other than the coating peeling off they are in great shape.

You can do this kind of repair with wood glue and clamps.

In the video she has a piece of wood screwed to the cabinet side to hold it together while spreading the epoxy mix. But he didn’t mention that in the video.

all you can do is sand it all down and repaint. Not so hard to do and will look awesome @@

There’s a couple more options but sanding and painting is the simple way and will look great

I can’t really tell if that’s melanine or paint over MDF. But if it’s built the way I think it is there should be 4 short screws on the inside front of the drawer around the ones that hold the handle on. You can take them out and the “front of the drawer will come off. You can sand it if it’s paint it if it’s melamine peel it off with a scraper then sand it. Rough it up and repaint it. or you can order a drawer front for $24 about and get it finished already in white or unfinished and do it white or stain it or whatever you want. You can replace every drawer front if you want. You can get what you have or get some with a different design. It’s up to you and inexpensive just search bathroom drawer fronts.

Thank you so much Joe! I did find the screws on the inside! I will be removing them and either sand and paint or replace. As a new widow I am learning so much about home maintenance and you have just broadened my knowledge. Thank you again!

This is melamine over pressed board. No need to sand the plastic coating. Use exterior spackling and put into the areas where the melamine is gone. Sand flat to match up with the surrounding melamine. Use a primer that adheres to plastic, then a paint of your choice. I'm sorry for your loss. Good luck.
