Tip: DIY Fix for Drawers That Won't Open All the Way

by Nadine
Ever since I purchased my new bedroom set, some of the drawers would not open all the way. This was good solid wood furniture so I tried on numerous occasions to pull on it really hard but that did not work. I even tried to oil the bottom sliders but that did not work on these particular sliders. I also looked online for solutions but nothing worked. I should have contacted the store I purchased it from in a timely manor for service, but I had a lot going on and by the time I decided to do that, It was out of warranty. So eventually, I just resigned to angling my arm & hands to get things out in the back of the drawers.
Last weekend I was frustrated having to angle my arm to get something out that I started pushing and pulling on the drawer back and forth at rapid speed. To my surprise the drawer started to slide forward. I continued pushing and pulling on it rapidly until the entire drawer was out. I repeated the process for the other drawers that never opened all the way and got all of them out. I reinserted the drawers and now all of my drawers open all the way. Hope this helps someone.

Super tip! Sometimes drawer slides are not fully engaged from the factory so as to prevent any damage. The store or delivery person should have checked them out. Don"t use oil on drwaer slides or hinges. Oil attracts dirt. Check to make sure everything works properly before accepting delivery.

I wonder if something was in there that you made fall out from rocking the drawers. Maybe the maker has something to keep the drawers from opening in transit?

Try rubbing a bar of soap or a wax candle on the sides. This helps when I had old wooden windows that stick.
