Is there a better gutter guard that performs well and can be self done

I have tried hole screen plugs, but they just got plugged with twigs and pine needles and grit/dirt

Home Depot sells a gutter guard that you can cut and place on top of gutters we had them for years and the only issues we had were the squirrels could pull them up and they would store acorns, etc in the gutters. They don't glue or nail down just clip into place -

HD also sells a foam insert. I just changed my gutters to this new foam, so I don't have a long track record, but this seems to work much better than the covers which can blow away in strong winds. -
