The first thing I would do is contact the company that installed your tile. Have them fix the ceiling to where it was before they started work. Take pictures.
Since I don't know what kind of a "mess" it is, I can't help you through it.

Hi Janna :) If it were me, I would call them back and tell them what they did and that they have to fix it free of charge (or at least consult an attorney about what I should do). It is totally WRONG for the contractor to leave any sort of mess behind concerning an area of your home that they weren't contracted to do. If they damaged your ceiling they need to repair that damage (or mess) to the way it was originally. I'm telling you the older I get the more I don't play around with folks who are lax about respecting others the way I have always tried to show respect to others and their property, and I am totally understanding my Dad'w attitude and behaviour much better LOL
Anyway, here are a few links that I hope help you. Thanks for using Hometalk and good luck, Janna.

The contractor who did the job needs to be contacted.

  • I agree with all of the above, document by taking photos. I detest sloppy contractors - seems to be so many of them out there. Don't let them get away with it! My social media using friends would be posting photos and bad reviews.

Call the contractor back! It is his job to leave the job completely finished.

If its a licensed contractor and they refuse to fix it go to your State Contractor's Licensing Board online and file a complaint.

Pphs... then I would get a quote from someone to fix what ever is wrong with the ceiling since you didn't state the problem, and then file a Small Claims case in court and take your pictures and quote, time and date you contacted the previous company and their license #.
