Can you paint PVC plumbing in a laundry room?

Question

We have exposed white PVC plumbing and insulated metal pipes in the basement laundry room.  Can they be disguised or painted?

Absolutely! I so wish I had a picture of the columns I did for a friend's fireplace surround about a decade ago- no one believed they were actually large pic pipes!
Anyway, lightly sand it to roughen the surface, then put  brush on a coat of primer followed by the paint color you choose. I used water based paints I had on hand that we're probably either Behr, SW, or BM . I actually did a faux finish bc that was all the rage back then but you could paint however you want.

Joann fabric store has some mini rolls of textured wallpaper that look just like tree bark. So why not get some and wrap the PVC so it looks like a tree? You can even add branches and hang mini buckets from the branches to hold laundry stuff or coins/buttons, etc.. Or turn it into a large fishing pole to match your fish on the wall.   Cause honestly, even if you just paint it, it's not going to look much different.

Yes, lightly sand, then primer, then paint that adhere's to plastic.

If i were going to try it  I would use rustoleum for paint in case of water for primer and paint.  We tried Krylon on some chairs and it scratched right off.   The idea about tree bark looking wallpaper sounds awfully cute.

It can be painted, we painted large pvc pipes outside my friends patio when we were doing a Margaritaville theme.  We just used regular outdoor house paint that we had handy to make it look something like bamboo, it's still there 7 yrs. or so later.

I used Krylon primer and paint that were specific for plastic after wiping clean with rubbing alcohol.  No peeling problems.  Also used miles of old newspaper for the spray drift and still didn't catch it all.

Sure, you can paint anything! There is a spray paint for plastic, I believe it's from Krylon.... But with a good primer, ( I like Kilz), anything becomes paintable!

If you have the white gas PVC pipes (with orange stickers) you may not be permitted to paint them, just check with your municipality.
Krylon Fusion as @ LindaDavis suggested sticks really well to plastic without primer. Don't use it near a lit pilot light.  I used it in a room near my hotwater tank closet (with a fan blowing away from the tank), and it smelled like barbecue fluid for a few days...I was afraid it would ignite...
 Other paints will stick well with B-I-N red label shellac-based primer. It helps paint stick to plastic, and kills stains. I used it when painting my vinyl floor.

Reporting back success!

Yes the PVC can be painted, using this Valspar bonding primer which worked very well. The pipes now are less glossy, black foam insulation concealed, red type on pvc and purple glue is gone. The pipe final finish painted to match the wall color on top of the primer.

we painted our whole basement- wood pipes pvc - go to home depot or lowes- no prep - spray painting was easiest but we hand painted- it looks awesome
